Meowgli Books Privacy Policy
Effective October 14, 2026.
Meowgli Books is an app of picture books for children on iPhone and iPad, made by Stanislav Arnaut ("we"). This page explains what data the app keeps, where it is stored and who can see it.
In short: we do not collect data about children or adults. The app has no ads, no analytics and no accounts, and we have no server the app could send anything to.
What stays on the device
So that your child can pick up where they left off, the app stores on the iPhone or iPad itself:
- bookmarks and progress in each book;
- stickers, badges, apples and the books opened with apples;
- books your child marked with a heart;
- minutes of reading per day, for the "For grown-ups" section;
- settings: language, theme, text size, which buttons are on;
- the subscription status reported by the App Store, and small notes such as whether the "Like it?" window has been shown.
This data never leaves the device, and we never receive it. It is deleted together with the app. If the device is backed up to iCloud or to a computer, the app's data goes into that backup like any other app's data; the device owner controls this.
Microphone and speech recognition
The microphone is used only for reading out loud: your child reads a page and the app marks the words already read. While a book page is open, the app listens by itself, with no button to press; you can turn this off in “For grown-ups” → “Settings” → “Reading out loud”. Speech is recognized by the iPhone or iPad itself, with no internet connection. No sound is recorded, no recognized text is kept, and nothing is sent to us or to Apple. Without microphone access the app still works, just without marking the words. You can turn access off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and Speech Recognition.
Purchases and ratings
Only a grown-up can subscribe, after a quick check. Apple handles the payment: we never see the buyer's name, Apple Account or card details. The app learns from the App Store only whether the subscription is active and until when. Apple sends us sales reports without any information about buyers. Apple's privacy policy describes how Apple handles payments: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
Ratings come from grown-ups: after the grown-up check, the app opens the App Store review page (until the app has its App Store number, the iOS rating window instead). Ratings and reviews go to Apple. We see only what everyone sees on the App Store: the average rating and published reviews.
If a grown-up uses Family Sharing, Apple itself makes the subscription available to their family members. We do not learn who is in the family or who uses the subscription.
Emails to us
A grown-up can write to us from the "For grown-ups" section, or after answering "No" in the "Like it?" window. The email opens in their own Mail app after the grown-up check and is sent only if they tap Send. We receive what is in the email: the sender's address, the text, and the app version in the subject line. We use it to reply and to improve the app. We never pass it on to anyone. We keep the conversation for no longer than 12 months after the last email, and delete it sooner on request.
Crash reports
If the device owner has chosen in iOS settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us crash reports for the app. They contain no name, email address or Apple Account. We use them to find and fix bugs.
What the app does not have
- ads or advertising identifiers;
- third-party analytics or tracking;
- accounts, sign-up or chats;
- links out of the app without a grown-up check.
We do not sell or share data with third parties, because we have none.
Children
The app is made for children aged 3 to 8. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, including under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). A child cannot send anything from the app: emails, purchases and the App Store open only after a grown-up check.
Your rights
If you have written to us, you can ask what data of yours we have, get a copy, correct or delete it, or object to its use: write to hello@meowgli.app. We process your email because you contacted us and expect an answer (for EU residents: legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Residents of the EU and the UK may complain to their national data protection authority. Data on the device is yours to delete, together with the app.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever starts collecting data, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy details first.
